Mexico Kitesurfing – Wind Season

In Mexico you can go kitesurfing to so many different locations... Pacific Ocean, Sea of Cortez, Mexican Gulf Coast and Caribbean Sea. Many Mexican spots allow great kitesurfing practice thanks to good wind conditions, but make sure to go during the right time because wind conditions in various spots change throughout the year. Here's a list of best kitesurfing locations in Mexico according to seasonal wind shift:

  • Baja California (Wind December - March)
  • Vallarta - Pacific Ocean (Wind March - May)
  • Mexican Gulf Coast (Wind December - May)
  • North Yucatan Coast (Wind almost all year, even during summer, thanks to a thermal wind effect usually starting daily after 2pm)
  • Caribbean Sea (Wind mid-November - May)

More helpful tips:

You can find many places to enjoy kiteboarding in Mexico, but not so many schools with IKO instructors. Also, since it's a totally new sport in Mexico, you may attract a lot of spectators at the beach. Watch out as people unfamiliar with the sport can sometimes have an unpredictable reaction. Please be mindful because even though technically there is no regulation against kitesurfing, some high-density hotel zones with private beaches do restrict kiteboarding activity.
