My boyfriend and I took lessons from these guys on our trip to Tulum. They were so knowledgeable and knew how to relay that knowledge. Safety is a priority (as it should be) and these guys strive to make a safe, independant rider out of you. The equipment they use is top knotch. They are all very knowledgeable about this to do in and around Tulum and we're trying to figure out how to go back to take some tours with them. There are lots of kiteschools in Tulum, but when I looked into them and asked a bunch of questions, it seemed as if they were all about the money. If you're serious about learning to kiteboard, these are the guys to learn from!!

Myself and Johan Myself and Johan * Em and Johan Em and Johan My girlfriend and i were recently on a return visit with a group of friends, determined to take some lessons in the interest of picking up a new wind-sport. While we had done a bit of initial research prior to our departure, we decided that our best option was to 'wing-it' and find an instructor/school while down on the beach. That is how we came across Johan in front of Ocho tulum (a short walk from La Zebra, where we were staying). He signed us up immediately that morning and we were back after lunch for our first 4-hour session. Very impressed with Johan's sincerity, professionalism, and ability to guide the unskilled. We were hooked from that day and signed up for more hours the next day. While Johan can be very hands-on, he also employs a very progressive hands-off approach (while under his watchful eye) which helps to accelerate the learning process and instill confidence in the student. Sadly, on our last day, the winds were not cooperative enough to allow both Emily and I to complete our certification but we have vowed to return for more as soon as possible (maybe early 2010). I am sure Johan's strapping good looks may also be a motivating factor for my girlfriend!) Highly recommended. We found the rates to be much more economically-priced than all of the other schools we had researched. Certainly worth the cost.

I was kiting out at the reef in Tulum and got washed in a wave, the kite dropped in the water and the lines were totallly srewed up; i had to let go the kite as it was not controlable anymore and my board was somewhere. at that moment i was far away from the shore and downUSD2500 :(( . Johan (the kite instructor from Ocho Kite school) saw my mess up on the water and came to help in no time. He rescued me and my kite. This was not an easy move and he did this without any hesitation. Johan thank you again. I have been kiting for several years now and i can highly recommend Johan and his crew. they are not only helpful but also and more importantly Very good teachers with a clear focus on saftey. Bjorn

I guess learning how to kite board in a setting like Tulum with Juanito or Johan as they call him back in his native Belgium, seems just like the right thing to do. Johann speaks perfectly English Spainsh (Super Chido!!), and of course french. He is a great guy, and fun to be around. But most important of all, he knows his stuff. I was up and running in two and a half days. True that I come from a windsurfing background, but objectively speaking, the guy is good. Enjoy!!!!
